Accommodation for Students in Delhi

It’s that time of the year again when thousands of students from all across the country descend upon Delhi to pursue their higher education degrees. With the number of colleges having hostels being very limited, and these hostels too having very few seats, majority of the students are left with no choice but to arrange for their own accommodation. The good news is that there are several accommodation options available for out-of-town students in all areas of the city and for all budgets.

North Delhi is the most important destination for most students since the North Campus is the one that has the best colleges. In this locality PG accommodations are available from as low as Rs. 1500 to Rs. 6000 per person. The charges depend on whether food and laundry services are required and also on who pays for the electricity and other charges. Since this a mainly student-dominated area the landlords don’t much interfere with the students’ lives and there are also several popular places to hangout in the nearby Kamla Nagar area.

For students looking at colleges in the South campus there are PG options available in areas like Sounth Extension, Greater Kailash, Sarojini Nagar, etc. which are not very heavy on the pocket ranging from Rs. 2500 to Rs. 5500. Satya Niketan is the hub of PG accommodations in South campus and is especially popular with students from the North-East.

In Central Delhi the PGs are targeted more at the office goers as well as the students with rates ranging from RS. 3500 around Paharganj to as high as Rs. 8000 and above at Connaught Place. In Eastern Delhi accommodation is comparatively cheaper with places in Laxmi Nagar available for Rs. 3000-5000 per month inclusive of food. It’s a good option if one is willing to compromise on the locality.

In West Delhi there are options available in a wide range from Rs. 3000-14000 depending entirely on the location. For example the rentals in West Patel Nagar are half that of the rentals in East Patel Nagar. So it would be a good idea for students to scout around a little and search for that perfect bargain.

Apart from the cost other factors like safety, cost of traveling, etc. should also be taken into consideration especially for women.
