Welcome Guest
Delhi is a city of variety. There is no dearth of entertainment channels.
As the capital of India, it attracts people from all parts of the country. The long history of the city has also resulted in the confluence of different cultures. The art, literature, dance, music and theatre of these myriad streams of people attract the attention of the people and provide them with entertainment. Craft bazaars and museums showcase the products of these different cultures.
The more modern youth of the city would prefer to drive away their blues in the discos and eateries that abound in the city. One can find the young swaying to slick Ostinato like rhythms and propulsive lyrics. However, the discotheque culture is attracting a lot of criticism and is regarded as an invasion of western culture.
Delhi has several hundreds of restaurants that cater to different tastes. Oriental food, European food, Western food, fast food or street food—you can find it all in Delhi. The crowds one sees in these eateries and the tongues one hears bears ample testimony to the cosmopolitan tastes of the people of this city.
The silver screen also attracts the youth in large numbers. Films in a variety of languages and genres play in the various theatres that are scattered across the city. Commercial films, art films documentaries—every genre has its audience! Multiplex theatres and Malls draw huge crowds of people who are out to enjoy a whole day outing. The satellite towns of Gurgaon and Noida are famous for the numerous malls that dot the landscape and one can see carefree youngsters spending fun filled days in these malls.
Delhi is a shopper’s delight. You can shop in a different market everyday! Clothes, electronic goods and fancy knick knacks are available at bargain prices. The Pallika Bazaar is an underground market that attracts every visitor to Delhi. The Khan market, the Sarojini Nagar Market, the Lajpat nagar market or the Sadar Bazaar are few of the markets that one can visit in Delhi.
If you are enthralled by history, Delhi has 5000 years of it to offer you. You can walk through the city for a month and still have many monuments left over to visit. Every brick and stone of Delhi has a history of its own. The Mughals, the Sultanates and the British have left indelible stamps of their presence in the city. Modern India is vibrant with events that will be spoken about in the pages of history in the future.
For the serious, Delhi’s libraries are haven. The museums, planetariums and centers of excellence hold a wealth of information that can be tapped. National and International events are an almost daily happening in this city.
So, if you visit Delhi you must be certain about your purpose. A short visit is insufficient if you wish to explore the variety that is Delhi.
