Chandigarh – The City Beautiful

Chandigarh CityChandigarh City

Chandigarh, also called The City Beautiful, was planned by the famous French architect Le Corbusier and derives its name from a temple of goddess Chandi (the Chandi Mandir) situated in the nearby Panchkula district. Picturesquely located at the foothills of the Shivaliks, it is known as one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century in India.

Chandigarh serves as the capital of two states: Punjab & Haryana. However, administratively, the city is not under the jurisdiction of either state and is instead administered by the Central Government and hence classified as a Union Territory. Chandigarh is known for its high standard of living with highest per ca-pita income in the country and tops the list of Indian states and Union Territories with a Human Development Index of 0.674.

Chandigarh has two satellite cities (both of which share a border with it): Panchkula & Mohali. Sometimes, the triangle of these three cities is collectively called as the Chandigarh Tricity. Chandigarh has several places of tourirst interest like:
Rock GardenRock Garden
Rock Garden - Built of industrial waste and thrown-away items, the Rock Garden in Chandigarh is perhaps the world's most poignant and salient statement of the possibility of finding beauty in the unexpected and accidental. The Rock Garden can be fully appreciated only by visiting it, by walking through it and studying it. Replete with imagery and layers of meaning, it offers much reward to those who come here.

Sukhna Wildlife SanctuarySukhna Wildlife Sanctuary

Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary - Spread over an area of 2600 hectares, the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 1 Km away from the Sukhna Lake. Soil conservations measures supplemented with massive afforestation led to the development of very good forest in hill catchment area which is now an ideal habitat for wide variety of flora and fauna.

Chandigarh Botanical Garden & Nature Park - The primary aim of setting up of this Botanical Garden is to promote research, education, ex-situ conservation and to spread awareness about our floral heritage. In addition, the garden is also expected to boost eco-tourism in Chandigarh.

Bamboo ValleyBamboo Valley
The Bamboo Valley - The Bamboo Valley has a variety of rare trees which include trees of Marror fail, Amla, Akash Neem, Silver oak, etc.

It provides something for everyone, from hectic business activity to unhurried window shopping and even crowd gazing in the vicinity of the fountain. Big showrooms and departmental stores cater to the needs of shoppers. Government Emporia, innumerable shops, eateries, coffee houses, bars & pubs keep the visitor completely occupied.

Additionally, every sector in Chandigarh has its own shopping facility. Prominent among these are the shopping facilities provided in Sectors 7,9,15,18,19,22,34,35 & 37.

Location – Situated at a distance of 240 km from Delhi and the capital of Punjab & Haryana states.
