Welcome Guest
Renowned Bharatanatyam dancer Geeta Chandran explores new areas of dance and acting in her latest work entitled ‘Kaikeyi’. Directed by Rashid Ansari, the one-hour long performance comprising three acts will be staged as part of the NSD International Theatre Festival – the Bharat Rang Mahotsav.
A solo performance, the choreography has been created through an intensive collaborative process between dancer Geeta Chandran and Rashid Ansari—one of India's finest martial artists and movement theatre directors.
Every moment in the performance, is sourced in a nuanced understanding of the character of Kaikeyi—the queen who has been villainized in almost every version of the Ramayana. Researching the original Valmiki text, the script for this production has unearthed enough facts about the events that took place leading up to Rama's exile, to construct a compelling case in Kaikeyi's defense.
The Venue: Circulation Theatre, National School of Drama, New Delhi
The Dates: January 9th, 2007
The Timing – 2.30 pm
The Tickets: Free Entry
