Welcome Guest
New Delhi: The much awaited and partially functional Delhi – Gurgaon expressway will become the only access controlled expressway having a traffic signal – perhaps only the first of its kind in world and certainly in India.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is seriously considering a proposal to go ahead with the existing traffic signal at Hero Honda Chowk on this expressway at least till an underpass at this site is not built.
For the paying motorist who will be paying toll for uninterrupted passage this means that they will have to bear with the traffic signal, the expressway is slated to be opened for public sometime in December or January.
One of the alternatives for making the expressway signal free is to route the traffic through another route, this will also annoy the motorists as they will be forced to take a longer route to reach their destination, so the most likely scenario is that the expressway will have a traffic signal till an underpass is not built.
As of now there are only 2 traffic signals functioning on the Delhi- Gurgaon expressway one at Hero Honda Chowk and another at Palam Chowk, the signal at Palam Chowk will be removed once the RTR-Palam stretch is opened for public currently the work is under progress there.
According to the consultants for this project RITES the traffic signal at HH Chowk would have been removed long time back had the work on the proposed underpass had started on time, doing so now will put heavy pressure on the service roads leading to long jams.
RP Indoria, NHAI Chief Project Director agrees that the paying motorist should be given clear passage on the expressway, he went on to add that its too early to say anything as NHAI is still evaluating options of managing traffic at Hero Honda Chowk.
So, till then bear with it and happy motoring.
