Welcome Guest
The Commonwealth Games, scheduled for 2010, are perhaps the single biggest factor responsible for most of the development that is taking place in the capital, especially on the infrastructure front. In another such initiative, the state government plans to overhaul the currently antiquated and inefficient public transport system in the city.
On the anvil is introduction of more modern and quality buses, as well as an increase in the number of mini-buses plying on the city’s roads - the objective being to make the public transport system modern, attractive and convenient, as this creates the first impression about a city in the minds of visitors.
As a part of this plan, the newly developed route map of DTC will be displayed at all entry points into the city including airports, railway stations, inter-State bus terminus, DTC depots and other congested places to inform commuters about the routes and connectivity. Over 200 new, modern and attractive bus shelters would also be ready for use by November this year.
Construction of new Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs), at Sarai Kale Khan and Dwarka, have also been initiated. On the operational front, the DTC has initiated the process of recruitment of almost 2500 drivers and appointed 250 daily wage drivers to overcome their shortage. Apart from this, it is also in the process of placing purchase orders for 625 new buses, which would be on the roads within the next few months.
