NEW DELHI: On Wednesday a high level meeting of Delhi Cabinet chaired by CM Mrs. Sheila Dhikshit gave its go ahead to build a state of the art hospital at sub-city of Dwarka – the largest in Asia.
Dwarka which has been developed by DDA as a self sufficient sub-city is home to close to 1 million people and increasing day by day also a second diplomatic enclave is slated to come up there. But with all this Dwarka lacks a state of the art large and affordable hospital, though there are many private hospitals there.
The new hospital to be built at Dwarka will have 750 beds and will be called “Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi Hospital” and will cost an estimated Rs.350 crore to build.
The new hospital will be built on an area of 15 acres and will be operational by year 2010. The hospital besides offering quality medical services will also have teaching facilities.
Speaking on the occasion the CM Mrs. Sheila Dhikshit said, “Since the Dwarka hospital is planned as a major facility for a sub-city of one million people, the Cabinet considered it appropriate to go in for a state-of-the-art facility which would serve the population over the next 50 to 100 years”.
The new hospital at Dwarka once operational will provide comprehensive health care with outreach services to the residents of Dwarka and its neighboring areas.
The new hospital once operational will offer round-the-clock emergency services, maternity services, operation facilities and all kinds of specialist health care services along with super specialty services and act as a referral institution for patients referred from dispensaries and other health centers.
The new hospital building will be a green building and will also serve as a teaching facility for the proposed medical college which is to come up at Dwarka.
