It is an occasion to underline the threat posed by communal and disruptive forces out to destroy the plural cultural tradition and democratic foundations of the nation achieved by the sacrifice of millions of patriots. We also need to sensitize the masses in general and the youth in particular about the principles and values of non-violence, secularism and communal harmony that have been nurtured by the toil and blood of martyrs. It is also an occasion to make our youth aware of our shared heritage (Sanjhi Virasat) and secular fabric of the country for which Mahatma Gandhi lived and died.
The youth needs to be convinced that a nation derives its strength by the selfless sacrifice rather than bigoted revenge. The dreams of Mahatma Gandhi and scores of freedom fighters will remain incomplete if there exists the ideology that promotes and propagates communal hatred and violence. Gandhi's martyrdom is an appeal to us all to join hands to eliminate violence and hatred from the society.
