ABOUT THE PLAY

The play is based on Bertolt Brecht's German Play "The Good Woman of Setzuan" and adapted in Hindi by Amitabh Srivastava

The play revolves around a virtuous prostitute called Ramkali, who is blessed by the god to remain "good" all her life, even amongst wrong-doers. To justify their existence, the god have to find a good person, living a life worthy of a human being, Their mission is to find a single good person, living a life worthy of a human being. They travel throughout the country. Unable to find lodging in Dilli, they meet Ramkali, who takes them in. The gods take pity on her and contrive to give her a fair share of money. With this windfall, Ramkali promptly gets into trouble. We come to the climax when Ramlal (a self-declared hero) enters the scene.

Like any didactic play it raises the question of deciding who is the wrong and the right and who is worthy of happiness and who isn't . Bretch's most powerful concept of  alienation and then sudden balance, makes the play even more interesting, To conclude this play is energetic, innovative, sharp, contemporary and full of music  & dance.
