Famous Parks

When Babur, the first Mughal Emperor, conquered India, he was quite amazed at the lack of gardens and parks. He brought several varieties of plants from Afghanistan and set about transforming Delhi into the beautiful capital it is today. He left behind several stunning gardens and spectacular parks which are still standing today. They are all historical parts of Delhi that have their own little story.

The Nehru Park is one of the most popular parks in Delhi. People come there to relax and have fun with family and friends. It is one of the most beautiful picnic spots and often people come in huge groups just to play ball or enjoy the scenery. One of the most attractive features of the park is the musical concert that usually takes place on Sundays. World famous musicians or Indian Vocalist usually give a performance in the morning for approximately two hours.

The Buddha Jayanti Park is located on Shankar road and is one of the biggest parks in Delhi. It has a beautiful jogger’s path lined with trees and flowering plants which are just perfect for the enthusiastic exerciser. There are large trees with enormous canopies that are just perfect for that large family picnic. There are enormous lawns that serve as a playground for the children and the crowds that arrive here are absolutely stunning.

The Lodhi Gardens is another peaceful spot that is extremely popular among picnickers. This garden has roots which are far older than the Mughals, though they were the ones who cultivated the gardens. They were originally used as tombs and there are several mausoleums that are still standing there. It is under the ownership of the Archaeological Survey of India.

The Kalkaji District Park is another park where the panorama is simply mind-blowing. It is set out next to a lake and has several neat terraced gardens. The Children’s park near India Gate provides children with swings, slides and even an aquarium. A large crowd is usually found there in the evenings.

Parks and gardens are great attraction for the people Delhi who love to catch the warmth of the winter sun or laze under the shade of the trees on a hot summer day. Visitors too find these parks a great source of entertainment.
