Welcome Guest
Delhites are in a party mood, blame it partly on the Diwali festivities and partly on the release of much-hyped big-banner movies that used all kind of promotional gimmicks to draw people to the movie halls. Delhi’s cinemas are running full house, with people finding it difficult to buy tickets for even the early morning shows, as cinema buffs booked their seats in advance to watch both films on the same day. Let’s review the options that were available for the cinegoers this weekend.
Saawariya – This much-hyped romantic film, which promised to be a dream vehicle for the launch of two star kids, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapur, failed to live up to the expectations that were built by dreamy promos and incessant promotional gimmicks. Though film’s director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, manages to extract impressive performances from the newcomers and both debutants carry themselves well, the movie fails miserably on the storyline front and turns out to be completely incomprehensible and miserable film. Wish Bansali would have given as much forethought, time and commitment to the storyline as he gave to creating the flamboyant and dream-like sets.
Om Shanti Om – This film showcases Shahrukh Khan in a different avatar, going shirtless and displaying his six-pack abs. But what is drawing people to the movie is Farah’s Khan’s depiction of the colourful and vibrant era of the 1960s-70s. The film is based on fantasy…no solid story line but executed beautifully, with dialogues, the no-offense-meant humour, light jabs and of course the reincarnation funda worked on with ease. King Khan has delivered to his best, tackling drama, comedy and action in his own style, while debutant Deepika Padukone seems poised and impressive. If you want to have a heady dose of the yesteryears, light and no-sense stuff and remarkable music, head for a theatre showing this movie.
No Smoking – This is one movie that would leave you confused and blank, even if you tried to stretch your imaginative and creative boundaries to the maximum. The movie leaves you baffled and at a loss as to how to connect with the movie.
Jab We Met – This is one movie that is real cute and touches the core of those in love. The director Imtiaz Ali has handled the obvious conclusion of the love story with finesse and mixed in ample doses of mushy romance, humour and drama that keeps the audience entertained to the fullest till the end.
