Welcome Guest
The first day of 2007 saw thick winter fog enveloping Delhi, throwing air traffic in complete disarray as several domestic and international flights were diverted or cancelled on Monday morning. As many as 24 domestic and 12 international flights had to be diverted, mainly to Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Eleven domestic flights also had to be rescheduled on Monday morning.
After thick fog enveloped the airport, the authorities had to put in their special services to allow flights to land and take off that saw seven domestic 16 international arrivals take place along with five international departures. The situation was made even worse due to a telephone network logjam around midnight as a result of which mobile and landline phone subscribers had a tough time getting in touch with relatives and friends to wish them a Happy New Year.
Both private networks and the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited were down due to a heavy traffic rush and customers were unable to either make calls or send text messages on their handsets. Domestic and international calls were also hit due to the congestion as people across the country rushed to make calls on ISD and STD lines during the annual switchover.
