Although born in Amritsar in Punjab as Rajive Hari Om Bhatia, Akshay Kumar, the popular film actor, was raised in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. What marks out Akshay as a man and as an actor is that he takes a principled stand when it comes to promoting his films or working for a noble cause. He is not an opportunist and therefore does not like to mix them together.

He was recently in Delhi to carry the torch for the Special Olympic World Winter Games. The torch was in Delhi on its way to Shanghai in China from where it shall be taken to Idaho in the USA.

It was to be carried from Red Fort to Chandni Chowk.Akki refused to talk about his forthcoming film Chandni Chowk to China during the visit. He was also  irked to see the posters of the films pasted on the walls all over the avenue.

He called Warner Brothers and informed them about his displeasure for using the event for publicity of the film. Most posters were, therefore, immediately removed in the morning when the event was to take place.

He clarified that the destination of the torch, ie, Chandni Chowk, was just a coincidence and by no means a calculated move. He also said that he is always loves to be in Chandni Chowk whenever he is in Delhi.

Reminiscing about his past in Delhi, he said that his roots were in Chandni Chowk and he used to jog to Red Fort every morning. This place, he acknowledged, had given him more than he could give it back.
