Police force known for its ‘dandagiri’, —baton wielding-- appears to be experimenting with Gandhigiri, a la Munnabhai style.

Sometime back there was news about Bombay police offering bouquets to traffic violators. So did the Bombay police want to encourage the traffic violators by offering them flowers? “Well Done, Boys! Carry on!”

Of course not. The move was obviously meant to embarrass them.

Now the Delhi Traffic Police, too, appears to be doing the same thing but in a different way. It is offering books on road safety to the traffic violators.  The drive, of course, makes more sense than offering them flowers. The road safety books can educate the maverick drivers on Delhi roads about the need for safe and disciplined driving.

Delhi Traffic Police chief S.N.Srivastava, along with a posse of traffic police personnel, attended the launch of the traffic awareness drive at Bhairon Marg-Mathura Road. The books will be delivered along with the challans.

Titled 'A Guide to Road Safety', and carrying the traffic signal on its cover page, the book exhorts the users to ‘'Respect this tri color too'.

Let’s hope the drive succeeds.
