Close on the heels of the sad news of tardy progress in building the 2010 Commonwealth Games Village in East Delhi comes the happy news of the Delhi Metro meeting its target even before the time.
Metro Rail has, in fact, set up new and enviable benchmark in efficient project execution. It has proved that nothing is impossible when you have a vision and work to achieve it with dedication and determination.
Metro has nearly completed its 6.36 km extension line from Vishwavidyalay to Jehangirpuri in north Delhi, a good ten months ahead of its scheduled date. The trial runs have already started and the service will be opened to public in December this year or early in January next year.
The trial runs that began from the GTB Nagar with a brief puja will continue for five weeks. The checks on fare collection, escalators, lifts, telecom and auxiliary systems would be carried out round the clock.
There would be five stations, GTB Nagar, Model Town, Azadpur, Adarsh Nagar and Jehangirpuri. This section will be integrated with the present 11 km line from Secretariat to Vishwavidyalaya.
