Lack of proper coordination among various public and government agencies in Delhi has put the prestigious 2010 Commonwealth Games under danger of cancellation.

Austin Sealy, Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Federation’s coordination committee expressed his unhappiness over the problems in completing the Games village near the Akshardham Temple in East Delhi.

The site of the Commonwealth Games village on the Yamuna riverbed has been involved in legal controversies since it was proposed. The matter is pending adjudication in the Delhi High Court in response to a Public Interest Litigation which alleges that the construction of the village would deplete the groundwater level.

Although the visiting dignitary refrained from making any comments on the matter since it is under judicial consideration, he warned that New Delhi would be deprived of chances of holding the games if the construction work is not completed in time. The only point of relief is that the court has not issued a stay order on the construction of the village.
