Vijay Kumar Malhotra is the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate for the Delhi assembly elections scheduled for November 29. 
 
He was born on December 3, 1931 in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed his education from DAV College, Lahore and Hans Raj College, University of Delhi. He holds a doctorate in Hindi Literature. 
 
He served as Chief Executive Councilor, Delhi Administration (Chief Minister in Protocol) from 1967 to 1972. He was President, Janata Party, Delhi (1977-80), President, BJP, Delhi (1980-84), and National Secretary, BJP (1983-90).
                             
This is his 4th term in the Lok Sabha and he has also been a member of the Rajya Sabha. He defeated Dr. Manmohan Singh in the South Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency during the 1999 elections.  
 
He has been an educationist, journalist, medical practitioner, political and social worker, sportsman and writer. He served as a Senior Lecturer and Reader at the PGDAV College, University of Delhi, for 36 years.  
 
Currently, he is an MP from South Delhi constituency and is the Deputy Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha. 
 
Vijay Kumar Malhotra focused on development during his tenure as Chief Executive Councilor, Delhi Administration, which is equivalent to Chief Minister. He established many schools and colleges and gave a big boost to sports. He was responsible for the establishment of Chatttrasaal Stadium and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital.
