Welcome Guest
Delhi plans to become one of the top golfing destinations of the world soon. As it prepares to play host to two major international tournaments, even the die-hard skeptics would be forced to believe that golf is one of the fastest growing sports in India. Both these events would be worth more than Rs. 20 crores. Some of the top players expected to participate in the events include Vijay Singh, Adam Scott and Ernie Els, as well as India’s very own Jeev Milkha Singh. The Johny Walker Classic is to be held at DLF Golf and Country Club at Gurgaon and the winner here will be richer by a whopping Rs. 1.7 crores. Ernie Els is not a new name for Indians, as he has a business interest in a joint venture with the Oberoi Hotels.
The Delhi golf aficionados will definitely be pinning their hopes on the local lad, Jeev Milkha Singh, who says that for golf lovers, the event is the golfing equivalent of holding the Commonwealth Games in India. In the eight years of the tournament’s existence, it is being held in the Indian subcontinent for the first time. In the Asian Golf Monthly Awards, the DLF Golf and Country Club at Gurgaon was declared the best subcontinental golf course and the awards were presented to the winners in Singapore. The awards are widely regarded as Asia’s golf course Oscars and are considered a standard for excellence, and the winner is chosen through an online poll.
The DLF Golf and Country Club has night golfing facility as well, the first in India. Those who want to try out their swing at the Golf Course, however, will have to arrange for a valid membership, for the hallowed DLF Golf and Country Club at Gurgaon retains its exclusivity by not allowing walk-ins at the course.
