Hindu College

One of the oldest and most famous colleges under the University of Delhi, Hindu College has seen remarkable growth since its establishment in 1899 and has come to be regarded as one of the most distinguished post-graduate co-educational institutions in the country. As opposed to its name, the college has a congenial and enriching atmosphere where a secular, liberal and competitive environment is promoted. The emphasis is also on advancing knowledge, addressing the problems prevalent in the society, and working extensively towards intellectual and personal fulfillment.

The history of the college is intricately woven with India’s struggle for independence. The college had been a seat of intellectual debate and discussion during India’s struggle for freedom, especially during the Quit India Movement. In response to Mahatma Gandhi’s call to teachers and students to join the Quit India Movement, the college closed its gates for several months.

The college has faculty strength of 100 members and student strength of more than 2000 and offers a number of courses in science, arts and commerce streams. In fact the college is often ranked among top five colleges in India in arts, science and commerce streams.

Admission to the first year undergraduate courses is made directly by the college based strictly on merit and different criteria that are set for admission to different courses. Students need to score a high percentage in the class 12 or equivalent exams in order to get admission to courses offered by the college with cut0offs for most courses being well in excess of 90%. . For postgraduate admissions students are first required to register themselves with the respective faculty with the University of Delhi.
