In Search of Authentic Chinese Cuisine

While there are several Chinese food joints in the city, most of them fall in the category of Indian Chinese or Punjabi Chinese, a case in point being the popular Yo! China chain of restaurants, which by the way is doing very well for itself. However, for those who want Chinese as it is served in China (of course without the lizards and frogs and snakes), you must visit, the now almost legendary, China Garden.

One of the best Chinese reataurants in Mumbai for almost 20 years, they opened a branch in Delhi some three years back and it has quickly gone on to become the most preferred destination for Chinese food aficionados. Located in the upmarket Greater Kailsah area, China Garden is a glitzy joint with simulated waterfalls and flashy glass stairs setting a racy mood. The restaurant has a seating arrangement for 200 people spread over five floors, and offers a fine mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies.

Tea lovers (and non-tea lovers as well) could start off with the jasmine tea, a traditional Chinese beverage with a distinct flavour of, what else, but jasmine. The Gin chicken, which could be best described as a Chinese version of the momo, must also be tried. Another interesting dish that could be tried is the loo phai kut and fish with black olive. Apart from these there are the usual Chinese dishes like Chillly Chickens and Manchurians along with several varieties of noodles and rice.

Surprisingly there are enough options for vegetarians as well to keep them happy. For dessert one could either play safe by going for the ice cream or opt for some of the more exotic stuff on the menu like fried sesame balls stuffed with chocolate.

All in all, a trip to China Garden is good enough to convince one why it has won the Best Restaurant award by Hotel and Food Service Review of India as many as 11 times.

Best Chinese in Town

Totally agree, this restaurant is one of the most authentic of all Chinese in Delhi. I especially like the spare rib with black bean sauce dish. The head of the Taiwanese Economic and Cultural Center in Vasant Vihar takes his lunch here. After having been to Daitchi, Golden Dragon, Yo China, Anotai, and other 5 star hotels - This is trully the best Chinese I've seen in Delhi.
