Established in the 1930s, Indraprastha College for Women stands for the ability to guard its sense of history and tradition while opening itself to the growing demands of successive generations of students and teachers. In a University famed for the architecture of some of its older colleges, Indraprastha College stands out for the stately beauty of its sprawling, single storey red and yellow building. In 2002 Indraprastha College was marked as a Heritage Building by the Government of Delhi and is going to be maintained by the Government itself. Green lawns, ancient trees, a multitude of small birds (even by the occasional peacock) and a riot of flowers and ferns mark the college as one of the most beautiful spots in the city.
Additions have been made to the college over the years in the form of the library, the gymnasium, the hostel, the cafeteria, the auditorium, etc. An audio visual centre and three well equipped Computer Labs have also been added recently to the college. At present the college has 2000 students, 200 of whom reside in the hostel. The college’s faculty of 100 teachers is among the most committed in the university and comprises some well known academicians with several publications to their credit.
The College offers Honours courses in several subjects including English, Hindi, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Political Science, etc. Admissions are strictly on the basis of marks secured in the Senior Secondary High School examination as the college declares a cut-off list for admission to various undergraduate courses every year. For some courses the college also conducts an entrance exam. Seats are also reserved for the Sports quota and also for children of armed forces.
Location – 31, Shamnath Marg, Delhi
Admissions 2007 – Application forms are available at the college and the last date for submission of application forms is 15th June 2007. The final selection list will be out on 10th July 2007.
