Known more for its ice creams than restaurants, Kwality restaurant situated in Regal building, Connaught place, New Delhi, is one of the oldest restaurants of the city.  

The Kwality restaurant dates back to pre-independence period. It was established way back in 1940 by Mr. P. L. Lamba.  Having heard a lot about it, yours truly just yesterday evening had the pleasure of going there for dinner. I will take you through the gastronomical journey I experienced.

We were a large group of 7 people. The ambience and interior of the restaurant were inviting.  The waiters and other staff of the restaurant were neatly dressed and polite. For the starters, we took the help of waiter and he recommended us fish fingers, chicken kebab, chicken tikka and for the veggies we ordered tandoori Aloo.

The service was fast and efficient. The order was on the table in few minutes. Chicken tikka and fish fingers were good, so was the tandoori aloo, but the chicken kebab was ordinary.  Moving on to main course, we again sought the waiter’s opinion. He promptly recommended taar meat (a mutton dish) and butter chicken. We went by what was recommended for the non-veg. and for the veg, having heard a lot about its Chole-bhature, we ordered it.  

Once the food was on the table, we found it rather disappointing. Their servings of non-veg dishes were very small. Even the taste, flavor and aroma which you expect from a top notch restaurant were missing. Yours truly is not a novice in judging the quality of the food, as when its comes to satisfying the taste buds, “ghaat ghaat ka pani piya hai” The only thing which looked succulent and tasty were the Chole-bhature.

In my opinion, Kwality restaurant is rather overpriced and expensive for the quality of food it serves, because it neither gives you the taste of fine dinning and nor the taste of your favorite eating joint….kwality miserably falls  somewhere in between. So, if you plan to visit Kwality Restaurant, order dishes by the number of persons. Don’t order 3 dishes for 5 persons. If you do, I am sure you won’t get the compliments. As far as recommending what to eat from my experience, go for fish fingers and Chole-Bhature… that’s all I can recommend.
