Lady Shri Ram College for Women has long been regarded as a premier higher educational institution for women in the country. The late Sir Shri Ram established the college in 1956 in memory of his wife with the aim of to provide quality higher education to women. Today the college is counted amongst one of the finest institutions in the country for social sciences, humanities and commerce. It also offers B.Sc. programmme in statistics, besides professional courses like Elementary Education and Journalism.

At present, the college has approximately 2000 students and more than 150 faculty members and administrative and support staff. The 16 departments of the college offer 16 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate programmes and over the years, the college has earned a reputation for excellence in academics and extra curricular achievement. The college is administered by a Board of Governors, which represents different strata of the society such as industry, law, journalism, academics and the bureaucracy.

Considered to be one of the finest educational institutions in the country, LSR has strict admission requirements with cutoffs for last year being well in excess of 90%. The aggregate required for all applicants is calculated on the basis of marks secured in English and three other elective subjects. Students opting for commerce or economics must have studied mathematics in class 12. Students, however, can skip mathematics while calculating the best four total.

The application forms for 2007-2008 are currently on sale and the last date for submission of completed forms is 15th June 2007. To assist students and their guardians a pre-admission counseling unit has been set up at the college to answer questions and give general admission guidelines. The unit will operate between 9:30 am - 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm till the last date for submission of forms.
