Welcome Guest
Set up within the charming ‘Garden of Five Senses’, Magique has an atmospheric edge over most restaurants in the NCR. Small lanterns highlight the foliage as you walk past fountains and pebbled paths to enter the restaurant, where dangling paper lamps and mist fans lend a romantic air to the whole setup.
In a city where pretty outdoor eateries are a rare, Magique is sure to impress every guest who comes here. Although its exterior and the ambience may impress you, you are irritated by its slow service. This, however, seems to be a sticky problem with almost all the restaurants of Delhi which have garden furniture, mediocre looking cutlery and disposable chopsticks.
These factors can be ignored if the prices are reasonable. The prices at Magique are pretty high. The cocktails range from Rs. 450-475, while the alcoholic beverages (especially the wines) start at Rs. 1,400 before touching the sky.
The restaurant doesn’t identify itself with the kind of food it serves. It is neither Indian, nor Chinese, nor Thai, or, Italian etc. There is no concept to the menu. There appears to be an emphasis on seafood and curries.
Once there. we started with shrimp, wasabi and dashi (Rs.375), which was too slow to arrive but this delay was compensated by their good taste. The shrimps were encased in spongy puffs and topped with generous dollops of wasabi. Encouraged by the initial taste and flavor, we ordered chicken stir fried with roasted chili, rice wine and yellow bean sauce (Rs.450).
The fare this time was a total disappointment. The dish was nothing but a bowl of Chinese style chicken-and-cashews in soy based gravy with rice on the side. Strangely enough, the yellow sauce was provided in a separate bowl. Though the chicken did not merit any description, the coconut tinged yellow bean sauce had an interesting tanginess to it.
But not all things were bad at the Magique. One dish that stood out for its taste and simplicity was char-grilled jumbo prawns (Rs.850). Its preparation had a Thai touch and it had an intense lemongrass flavor.
To finish off our dinner, we ordered a decidedly non-Asian afogato. What we got was a coffee cup containing a decadent brownie moistened by vanilla ice cream and a strong shot of espresso.
To sum up, Magique can easily draw in crowds with its gorgeous settings, but anyone observing the changes in Delhi’s gourmet scene will tell you that no new restaurant in Delhi can afford to survive on ambience or location. Delhities now know their maki from nigiri, and if they are going to pay upward of Rs. 3000 for two persons, they will demand a good reason for doing so.

Abdullah you should delete your article
I know well Abdullah and he is always criticizing everything in a very rude and unpolite manner. He is just a small and unhappy man. Don't read his article - all of them have the same negative content. Abdullah went once in France in his entire life and he thinks he knows about cooking, culinary and prestige. Poor man.

On April 18th, eight of us
On April 18th, eight of us went to
Magique for dinner. It was a real let down - considering all the hype. Agreed that the setting and ambience is good - but the food and service TERRIBLE We ordered an appetizer of a cold crab dish which felt and tasted stale.. In the main course,
most of us ordered Newzealand Lamb Chops and Norwegian Salmon. The chops were tough and overcooked - no accompaniments - like greens etc. just 4 meagre sized chops with a tamarind sauce. The ood is supposed to be pan-asian but the chops just seemd to be deep fried overcooked. Norwegian Salmon was all
of 1 miserly pieces of with a tbsp of potato mash - fish was stale. Even the duck, was overcooked with a very watery tamarind sauce. Food presentation was lousy. Not much variety in the dessert section.
While were leaving the restaurant, we spotted Mr. Sikka. a couple of us went and told him that he had a beautiful place with fantastic ambiance, however, food
needed some improvement. Instead of asking for a specific complaint, we were told "the food here is eclectic and Indians will find it difficult to appreciate"...to ease the shock which was obvious on our faces, he added....."I am also an Indian like
you".
Marut Sikka doesn't realize that we indians are not just a dhaba eating crowd now -
Agree that the ambience is
Agree that the ambience is really nice to just hang around for the whole evening with friends- but definitely expensive. We ordered desert which was served in a fancy big cup and the actual portion was so small that you had to literally peek inside to see it ! However on challenging the portion size they gave us a generous extra dollop of icecream and brownie. limited menu but tastes good.
Review stands some basis.
I am a regular at magique. Mostly cuz of the music and ambiance . Specially on sat's when iggy takes over. The place is definitely an experience of it's own might but yes the food and the drinks are definitely expensive. Service yes it's slow but not all that bad considering how long does it take to prepare those excellent mouth watering dishes. marut is always around chatting up with guests and is always good fun. Prices.. hmm.. I would say the place isn't for everyone.. which is understandable.
MAGIQUE
Well i think Magique is not only beautiful it is actually stunning n extremely relaxing . Mr Abdullah obviously is not familiar with the nuances of fine cusine bec it is all about tickling the pallette ... Food is decided afer a lot of trials n re trials and opinions n suggestions are appreciated but lets face it guys it can get a little over bearing some times for any one.. thats why restaurants provide comment cards ..As for the service yes its a tad slow which can get a bit annoying. As for the food I am a regular there and havent really gone beyond my three favourites Salmon, lamb chops ,lamb potato curry .... The pricing is a bit steep but haven ever left the place before 3 hours so i guess no second round happens... Well sorry but i find the place really beautiful ,unwinding and chilling unlike so many places ...... so im not complainig till another one comes up ! CHEERS
