MAMC celebrates Golden Jubilee

NEW DELHI: One of the premier medical colleges in India Maulana Azad Medical College or MAMC celebrated its golden jubilee with much aplomb and fanfare on Saturday.  Speaking on the occasion Delhi’s Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that MAMC has all the qualities of making its mark felt not only in India but in the world.

She went on to add that she feels proud that in a very short time MAMC has in conjunction with LNJP Hospital, G.B. Pant Hospital and Guru Nanak Eye Centre has earned a reputation for itself across the country. The specialized services offered by MAMC can be compared with the premier medial institute of India – AIIMS.

Hospitals run by the city government not only serve the local population but also cater to a large number of people from other states.  Patients from other states constitute about 35% of the total patients treated in government hospitals.

In her speech she also talked about the history of MAMC, in the first war of independence (1857) and at that time the campus was known as Old Jail and Phaansi Ghar and had witnessed the execution of a number of freedom fighters.

Concluding her speech Ms. Dikshit hoped that in coming years MAMC would maintain the high standards it has set it for itself and assured that the Government would provide funds not only to upgrade the institution but also to ensure better treatment and facilities for patients.
