Meena Bazaar is a term used to describe a place selling fashionable clothing and cosmetics in the days gone by. However, this tradition is still kept alive by the Meena Bazaar located just below the massive stairs on the Eastern end of Jama Masjid. Built in the late 1970s, the shops on the both sides sell items like embroidered caps for Muslim men, local cosmetics, pictures and posters of sacred places, and readymade garments like burquas used by the Muslim women.
Meena BazaarApart from the Meena Bazaar there are several other interesting markets nearby like the Cotton Market for colorful fabrics, quilts and pillows, the ‘Churiwali Galli’ for colorful glass bangles, and the ‘Chor Bazaar’ or flea market selling everything from electronics to antiques to coins to guns. There is even a cycle market nearby selling bicycle parts as well as new and old bicycles.
Wrap up the shopping experience by enjoying great Mughlai food at any of the several roadside ‘dhabas’ near the Jama Masjid. Finish everything with some hot ‘gulab jamun’ or ‘jalebis’.
Address – Near the stairs on the Eastern end of Jama Masjid facing the Red Fort, Delhi
How to Reach – The best way to get here is to take a Metro to the Chawri Bazaar or Chandni Chowk stations and hire a cycle rickshaw from there. One could also take a bus or an auto (not recommended due to the chaotic traffic situation in this area)
