Miranda House

Miranda House residential college for women is one of the premier Women's Institutions of Delhi University. The college was established in 1948 by the then Vice Chancellor of Delhi University Sir Maurice Gwyer and was originally designed by the renowned architect Walter George. The college has an imposing campus that shares an architectural affinity with other colonial educational institutions of the country. Built in warm red brick with cool and spacious verandahs the Miranda House building along with the hostel is declared to be a heritage site.

The college offers liberal education in humanities and science to more than 2500 students and its faculty is renowned for their meritorious profile, versatile talent and dedication to the cause of education. Over the years the college has produced women who have excelled in various professions and have contributed in numerous ways to society at large. Apart from the stress on education the college also provides its students with the space to freely express and develop views that help them respond to changes in society.

The Undergraduate Courses offered by the college include the B.A. Programme, B.A. (hons) in English, Hindi, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Geography, mathematics, Sanskrit, Bengali, Music, BSc. (Hons) in Physics, chemistry, Botany Zoology, Mathematics, B. Sc. Life Sciences, B. Sc. Applied Physical Sciences, B. El. Ed. (4 year course).

Admission to most of the courses depends on the percentage of marks secured in the Senior Secondary High School examination as the college declares a cut-off list for admission to various undergraduate courses every year. However for admission to B.A. (Hons) English 50% weightage is given to the Entrance test and 50% weightage is give to aggregate % of marks in 1 language and 3 elective subjects. Admission to Miranda House on the basis of merit in Sports and Extra curricular activities is also available for limited seats.

Admissions 2007 – Application forms are available at the college and the last date for submission of application forms is 15th June 2007. The first admission list will be out on 26th June 2007.
