Earlier the far flung rural areas of Delhi, like other parts of India, did not have even the schools, not to speak of colleges. Moreover, if at all there were educational institutions, they were meant primarily for boys.

It goes to the credit of the Delhi Administration that it has opened several colleges for women in the rural areas as well.

Aditi Mahavidyala, affiliated to the Delhi University, is one such example of the proliferation of educational facilities in Delhi and the accent of the policy makers on the education for women.

The college, located at Delhi Auchandi Road, Bawana in the North West Delhi, caters to the girls of the area. The college was founded in 1994 with the objective of bringing diverse streams of higher education at the door steps of the rural population of Delhi.

The courses at the college have been designed to impart education that is relevant to the emerging needs of the students. They provides skills necessary to make them self reliant.

The college offers graduate courses like B A Hons in Hindi Journalism, B A Hons in Social Work, B A program, B.Com Hons and B.El.Ed.

The college awards scholarships to the deserving students. The scholarships awarded are VC Scholarship, Sanskrit Scholarship from Delhi Sanskrit Academy, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, Pushpa Bhatnagar Educational Trust , Merit Scholarship, NGO Scholarship, Jaipur University Scholarship and Dr. V. K. R. V. Rao Scholarships.

The achievers of distinctions in various academic streams last year were Sonia Rana, Anjuman Gulati, Jyoti, Meena, Sadhvi Kalra, Neha Sharma, Neena Thakran and Indu Thakran.

The college also organizes various educational, debating and cultural societies such as Environment Society, Dramatics Society, Computer Society, Debating Society, Music & Dance Society, Commerce Society, Ekta Society, Sanskrit Literary Society, Vedic Society, Family & Child Welfare Society, Sahityaki Society and English Literary Society.

Admission requirements are:

Admission to BA Hons in Hindi Journalism is available to students who have passed 10+2 examination with 55% marks. Students seeking admission to this course have to appear in a centralize entrance test conducted by the Delhi University.
Students seeking admission to B A Hons in Social Work should have obtained at least 45% in their 10+2 examination. Students have to clear an entrance test.
Students are admitted to BA Program on merit and first come first serve basis.
