Al-Bake

Located in the heart of South Delhi at Community Centre in New Friends Colony (NFC) are many good and great eateries, catering to people of all budgets and tastes. Here you will find high end restro-bars, MNC fast food joints and small eateries like dhabas as well as food carts selling momos and kathi rolls.

Here I am talking about the best place to have the Lebanese delicacy ‘Shawarma’ at the most affordable rates as well as other non-veg dishes. The people who had eaten shawarmas know what they taste like. The shawarmas at Al-Bake aren’t that great. They’re just okay as I have eaten better tasting ones but not at this price (Rs 20 for 2 pieces). But for those who had no shawarma experience ever, most of them will end up finding the taste heavenly.

First of all, those who have been to the NFC may know that there are two joints with the same name owned by the same family. The first one, which is already reviewed above is the one which sells shawarmas and other misc items, the second, just a couple of yards away, is THE place you want to go if you wish to experience good quality non-veg food at affordable rates.

When I first went to have my first taste of Shawarmas at this place, it was all because of my little brother, a self proclaimed foodie- eulogizing about how good the Shawarmas at the first joint are. I incidentally discovered the other Al-Bake by chance when strolling through the market.

On my next visit to NFC, I decided to try out the other Al-Bake outlet the one serving non-veg meals minus the Shawarmas. Man was I disappointed, no, the food which I ordered was great and prices reasonable. The dish which I enjoyed the most was butter chicken and mutton burra, though butter chicken is not one of my favorite dishes, as I despise the use tomatoes in non-veg. But I was in for a surprise as the gravy of butter chicken was marvelous. The gravy is light and mildly colored, not heavily laden with tomatoes as one find in the other street side joints. It’s well spiced and the boneless version pairs up marvelously with boiled rice.

Another interesting item on the menu of Al-Bake is a mutton dish with sabut (whole) green chilies, I have forgotten the name, no it was not mutton stew. It was light, packed with flavors, and not too oily.

Al Bake- All in all is a perfect place to gorge on good food, as long as you don’t mind the surroundings as the interiors of both the joints are very basic.

The first Al-Bake joint is famous for its chicken shawarmas priced Rs 20 for two pieces. The other things on offer at this joint are Chinese food, choupsey etc..... All in all - sasta tasty and tikau... (affordable, tasty and dependable).

The other Al-Bake joint serves proper non-veg. food, go there to enjoy some good food without burning a hole a in your pocket.
