Delhi Boys Shine at Ranji Trophy

Cricketers of Delhi have scripted a glorious chapter to the stories of their success in Ranji Trophy. They pulled a victory that few thought was possible. It was a saga of triumph not only over their adversaries but also over the adversities. It was a triumph of an excellent teamwork. Above all it was the triumph of the sportsman spirit and the never-say-die attitude.

This is the story of 14 triumphant cricketers who stood by and with each other through joy and sorrow, defeat and victory. This happened when the Delhi cricket team swept to the top of the Ranji Trophy league table.

A pall of gloom fell upon the Delhi team when they were shot out for a paltry 110 in the first innings of their first game of the season against the Rajasthan cricket team. But the euphoria and the joy of the team and the Delhiites can be imagined when Shikhar Dhawan hit the winning runs against Tamil Nadu on Friday to ensure Delhi's passage to the Ranji semifinal.

The defeat from the Rajasthan had utterly demoralized the team and their supporters. It appeared that they were in for another season of failure and despair. The critics pulled out their knives to shred the team, the management and everyone who was associated with its training. But the things took a new turn thereafter.

The fight during the season was never easy and it was never expected to be easy too. The Delhi team had to fight more than their opponents to reach this far.

Brave as the Delhi team has been, the fortune also favored it. The players all along knew that they could beat the best and they did their job in style especially when they played against Maharashtra and the Tamil Nadu.

The reason behind their remarkable yet unexpected achievement was the collective team effort. Each and every player did his best, whether on the field or off it, to make the success possible. Ajay Dhaiya, the team coach deserves kudos for bonding his players like they haven’t been in the recent past. It made no difference to the performance of the team even though it had three different skippers during the season. Akash Chopra and Gautam Gambhir, the deadly combination for the last decade did a marvelous job and so did their team mates like Mithun Manhas, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli,Rajat Bhatia,Parwinder Awana and Chetanya Nanda.
