The Delhi government has recently announced its decision to set up Indraprastha University of Engineering and Technology in Delhi that will impart education in graduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in engineering, technology and information technology. It would provide world-class research facilities and be an attractive alternative to those who want to go to Harvard, MIT or similar institutions for higher education.
Just as the USA is the dream destination for the students and professionals across the world, Delhi has now become the land of opportunities for those who cannot or do not want to go to the USA or other foreign countries. The universities and other institutions of higher education in Delhi provides the same world-class standards and facilities for all streams of education as the foreign universities and institutions.
There are several schools, colleges and universities that teach engineering, technology, medicine, business management, hotel management, agriculture, Information Technology, media, mass communication and much more.
Delhi is one of the largest commercial centers in South Asia. It attracts professionals from across the country who want to get into the booming Indian market. Delhi’s economy has registered a steady growth over the last few years especially in sectors like the real estate, Information technology enabled services—ITES, media and retail.
With such booming sectors, Delhi is attracting not only the budding and established investors, but experienced professionals and freshers as well. Pankaj Bhatnagar, a Technical Lead in India Bulls, who shifted to Delhi two years ago from Rajasthan says, "Everything is here. The software sector - even in terms of pay scales - is growing in tandem with Mumbai and Bangalore.'' A recent survey shows that nearly 30% of the Indian graduates who do not find jobs elsewhere get some respite in Delhi because of the call centers here.
Avtar Singh who recently moved here from Amritsar, says,” Delhi is full of job opportunities. The growing number of MNCs are a boon to the graduates. All you need is a college degree and fluency in English.”
With the 10th Commonwealth games just two years away, the city is in for a major infrastructural face-lift. There is spurt in construction of commercial and residential properties. The real estate sector is on a new high.
Besides the software and real estate sectors, the national capital is a political hotbed and a big media center. Abhineet Kumar, who works for a TV channel, says, "I always wanted to work in Delhi. I don't think I would've found as many options elsewhere. This city holds the media industry." Not only the Indians, but a large number of foreigners also are turning up to Delhi to explore job options here.
