International Awards for Young People (IAYP) India

New Delhi, April 21--Vice President Mr M Hamid Ansari presented the prestigious International Awards for Young People (IAYP) at Vice President’s House in the capital last evening. Mr Ansari is the Patron for IAYP awards in India.

International Awards for Young People is an international youth development program currently operating in over 114 countries. The program seeks to channelise youthful energy into meaningful effort leading to all-round growth of young people. The award program is meant for young people between 14-25 years of age.

Addressing on the occasion, the Vice President said that the key determinant of our future as a vibrant society lies in the quality of our people. Recent events have demonstrated the destructive force of youth energy.

In India, Ms Naina Lal Kidwai, Mr Anand Mahindra, Mrs Mala Ramadorai (w/o TCS Chairman), Dr Sanat Kaul and Mr Ishaat Hussain (CFO Tata Sons) are the Trustees of IAYP.

”IAYP operates from the best of schools across India. Equally it works with organizations for the disadvantaged and poor. The Award list gives a true picture of the sweep of activity across the country. “Special Projects” include the Salaam Baalak Trust, Delhi, Sir Syed Group of Schools, Ramakrishna Mission’s Blind Boys Academy, Emmanuel Ministry, Kolkata; and Olcott Memorial School, Chennai. Rural village schools in Vellore, Tamil Nadu (Kaniyambadi & Pennathur) are also included”, said Vice Admiral Suren Govil, National Chairman of IAYP in India.

 
Three International Visitors were special invitees to the award function. These were:

   1. Ms Sue Walker – Regional Director Asia Pacific Region, IAYP. Based in Sydney Australia.
   2. Ms. Cristal de Saldanha – Head of Programmes, International Office, London
   3. Ms. Becky Hirt, Head of Communications, International Office, London
