With the cut-off marks touching almost hundred percent in the high value courses such as science, maths and commerce, the board examinees and their parents present photogenic faces of tension. The age old idiomatic expression, burning mid-night oil, has become anachronistic. Instead now we have the new generation of mid-night children pouring over their books all through the night and trying to arrest the fleeting moments so that they can prepare well for their examination and pull through the cut-throat competition.

Imagine the mental state of an already harried student leaning intently over his notebook, when all of a sudden there is a blackout. The light appears to go out of life itself. You feel like pulling off your hair out of exasperation. You froth and curse, oh, damn it, and shout for your mom.

No more fretting and fuming now. The electricity supply companies have bright news for the capital’s sweating scholars. They have promised uninterrupted power supply during the next six weeks and this time they appear determined not to break their promise as they did last year. There would not be any load- shedding during the peak work period.

BSES, the private power utility company which caters to three fourths of the capital’s power needs has declared that  they have made arrangements  to procure approximately 100 MW of power from their parent company Reliance Energy Limited, Mumbai, during the next six months. "The quantum can be scaled to 200MW if the situation so demands. The next six weeks are crucial for schoolchildren and we do not want to play spoil sport," said a source.

The power supply company has said that it is making all-out efforts to ensure constant and uninterrupted electricity supply especially in the morning and during night hours so that the students can work at will.

The BSES has equipped its linesmen with mobile phones for instant communication with the central control room in any event of the power failure. The operation and maintenance staff of the company will remain at work round the clock to respond immediately to ‘no supply’ complaints.
