Till date we believed that marriages were made in heaven. Surprisingly now marriages are also made on ‘Idiot Box’. After “Rakhi ka Swayamvar” last year, NDTV Imagine is now presenting the Swayamvar- Season 2. This time the groom is Rahul Mahajan- who once again claims to be an eligible bachelor after divorce with his wife, Shweta. We hope this time Rahul would be able to find his dream woman through this reality show. But does it really work? Well its pretty doubtful to those who have seen the fate of Toronto-based businessman Elesh Parujanwala, who was chosen as a groom for Rakhi last year. Despite the suspect element involved with the integrity of the show, audience are ready to tolerate this Swayamvar titled “Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega” that promises to be worth watching and beyond imagination.

Rahul Mahajan came into limelight after the violent death of his father and BJP patriarch Mr. Pramod Mahajan. , He was being seen as the successor to the political heritage build by his father over the years. But steering clear from the politics, he decided to marry his love i.e. Shweta. But soon his image got a massive blow when he was spotted by media for indulging in shameful acts like consumption of drugs and beating his wife. Ultimately he divorced his wife and got a new lease of life when he was invited to Big Boss Season-2 as a participant. Here also he got romantically involved with the B-grade actress Payal Rohtagi. None the less his participation in the show got him recognition and once again he was the most talked about boy in tabloids and gossip columns. After giving himself a little break he came as a judge on the Laughter show titled Chote Miyan.

It would not be wrong to say that conservative Indian mentalities and attitudes are changing. Despite being divorced and accused of drug and physical abuse, 15 girls (participants on the show) are ready to accept Rahul as their future husband and all of them have a dream to lead a happy and blissful life with him. We wish all the best to these girls.

Setup in the backdrop of royal Rajasthan, the show begins with an eclectic and grand introduction of the groom, Mr.Mahajan. He was looking like a prince in blue sherwani. The presenter of the show Ram Kapoor was as usual humorous and excited. Then came the actual part of the show i.e. Introduction of all the 15 participants. One by one girls were arriving at the venue and they were welcomed with the typical Rajasthani environment. All of them were wearing traditional Indian outfits and were looking stunning. Rahul greeted all the participants with bunch of flowers. Out of the 15 girls, three are from our very own Delhi, three from West Bengal, two each from Maharashtra, UP and Haryana and one each from Jammu, Punjab and Gujrat. Girls are not only beautiful but also well educated and working in diverse fields like modeling, anchoring, BPO etc.

Show started with all the girls presenting small gifts to Rahul as a gesture of love. But all this was looking artificial and scripted. It was too shocking to imagine what made these girls love Rahul (who is tagged by his ex-wife as a “Wife-Beater”) so much… Is it love towards Rahul or love towards the money and fame associated with the show? Let’s wait and watch if this Swayamvar will also have the same fate like that of “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar” or it has some spicy, raunchy and most importantly some real action to unfold.
