We had Welcome keeping us nailed to our seats for the past few weeks. Directed by Annes Bazmee, Welcome is an adaptation of Hollywood film Mickey Blue Eyes. The film surely gives you 100% value for money, with an all-through side-splitting experience, which keeps you wanting more. It lived up to its created hype, pure entertainment with all the masala of a commercial comedy. Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal and Anil Kapoor are a comedy-filled trio. Mallika dodges in to intensify the laugh. A cracking story and awesome music fills in, creating a throbbing atmosphere from beginning to end.

Compared to Welcome, Rama Rama Kya Hai Drama is just a feeble attempt towards slapstick comedy. It tries to be funny, but fails miserably because of a weak storyline, lack of comic treatment and, overall, some stock situations and effects which are no more funny. Rajpal Yadav overdoes himself, Neha Dhupia seems landed-up in the wrong role, Ashish Chaudhry and Amrita Arora are mediocre, and Anupam Kher does a slapstick routine that is remotely amusing. On the whole, the attempt at portraying marital dilemmas in a lighter shade converts to a bunch of tedious marital advice and a dragging experience drag towards a predictable end.

One major factor distinguishing the two comedies released one after the other seems to be the storyline, something which made the former and destroyed the latter. Once again, here is an example to be reminded that simply putting stars or popular characters into a film would not draw the audience in. There needs to be substantial material in a film, to keep the audience interested for 3 hours.
