Our very own
Bollywood’s answer to Brangelina, that is Saifeena have a well oiled publicity mechanism in place that ensures that the glamorous duo are never far from the headlines or the public imagination. Since we have repeatedly seen marriage sound the death knell for any number of actresses, this real life romantic pair is careful to tell the tabloids repeatedly that they are not married and are currently concentrating on their respective careers; that marriage can wait.
This has not however ended speculation about when and how the two will wed, and the Saifeena wedding is something that continues to fascinate the tabloid press and the film going junta alike. Periodically we read stories about a ‘secret wedding’ performed somewhere far from the madding crowds, that is followed by a swift disclaimer from the parties themselves.
Such is the level of interest in the star duo, their personal life and their impending will-they-wont-they nuptials, that anything and everything that they do is of instant interest to the slavering multitudes that thrive on gossip of the stars, however trivial. So if we had Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor’s
3 Idiots costar gift her a saree worth 25 grand, tongues start to wag; even though this is literally small change for our multi-crore charging stars.
Something else that is causing tongues to wag is the choice of name for the directorial debut of Neelima Azeem, who just happens to be the mother of Kareena’s ex, Shahid Kapoor. It is a convoluted brain indeed that construed the name of the flim,
Nawab Nautanki to be a dig at the Saif Ali Khan – Kareena Kapoor pairing!
For all the off screen interest that people have in the Saif – Kareena pairing, this is not enough to ensure box office success, as was demonstrated by the performance of the Saifeena starrer
Kurbaan. Since the pairing itself is no guarantee of success, even with the much publicised steamy scenes included, we are now informed that the duo will take a pay cut for their next film together;
Agent Vinod which starts shooting early next year. Here apparently high fees for the stars are more dispensable than the exotic locations that the films demands.
So there you have it, the Saifeena phenomenon, for any one out of a variety of reasons, squarely and inevitably in the news; at all times!
