Don't be distracted by the worn out facades of the bland looking buildings. Remember they are the state bhavans-- government buildings. The real fun lies inside them. These bhavans house foodie havens that provide authentic state cuisines. Here are some of the hidden gems:

Banga Bhavan

You may not be impressed by the ambience or the service here, but what  you have come here for is food which is truly remarkable. You may choose from some of the delicious Bengali 'thalis'--plates such as fish plate, vegetarian plate, egg plate, chicken or mutton plate. All these plates provide you a lip-smacking food items.

A thali with rice, roti, dal, subzi and a choice of vegetables, fish, egg, chicken, mutton costs you a mere 35-50 rupees.

Sikkim House

You can get the best of Sikkimese food here.  The routine menu provides non-vegetarian foods which include pan fried noodles, chicken or pork momos, roast pork, Cantonese or Tibetan dishes such as thukpa and shwabhaley. Normally a dish costs around Rs. 60-65.

Andhra Bhavan

It is one of the most crowded state government run canteens. It caters to around 600-700 guests every day. The deafening din is amply compensated by the yummy food served with excellent hospitality. The restaurant serves sumptuous vegetarian thali for Rs. 70, fish thali for Rs 80 and meat thali for Rs.70.

Tamil Nadu House

If you love to eat authentic Tamil food, head towards this south Indian food joint. Their specialty is   Chettinad chicken masala (RS 70) and parota (Rs 15). You may also try sadhams with vegetables or steamed vegetables.
