Ajay Devgan’s first movie released this year, Halla Bol, was a box office disaster, failing to impress even his ardent fans. His second film this year, Sunday, is all set to hit the theatre screens today. Sunday is directed by Rohit Shetty, whose earlier film Golmaal had people pouring into the movie theaters. While you may categorize Sunday as a comedy, this new movie comes with an element of mystery. The film is set in Delhi and stars Ayesha Takia, Arshad Warsi and Irrfan Khan. The last movies in which Arshad Warsi and Irrfan Khan starred (Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and Aaja Nachle, respectively) had also proved to be box office duds. The box office has had a dull spell after the success of Amir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par and distributors are waiting anxiously to see if Sunday manages to break that spell.
The film’s story revolves around Sehar (Ayesha Takia) who is a much-in-demand dubbing artiste because of her ability to imitate the voices of various cartoon characters. She suddenly becomes the center of attraction of a different kind – as various threads connect her with a murder. Her fiancé, ACP Rajveer Upadhyay, played by Ajay Devgan, is a corrupt cop. He believes that his fiancée is innocent, but is mystified by the fact that Sehar is unable to recollect anything that transpired on a Sunday when the murder took place. The list of accused includes taxi driver Ballu (Arshad Warsi), budding actor Kumar (Irrfan Khan) and Ritu, a close friend of Sehar. While parts of the film can keep the audience at the edge of their seats, the director has managed to intersperse various amusing moments as well.
