New Delhi: Lights, Camera and action, this is how the scene at various markets in Delhi are going on with only a few days left for Diwali, markets are bustling with large crowds.
Well, all of you can pretty well understand the opening two words, lights and action, Diwali is the festival of lights, action is for lots of activities going in the market then for what camera stands for, well by camera I am referring to the security point. To keep a watchful eye Delhi police have installed CCTV’s in almost all the main markets of Delhi.
People are busy buying simple utensils to expensive jewellery; it seems the shoppers are out on a shopping binge without feeling a pinch. In Indian custom and tradition it’s believed that if you make purchases i.e. spend money after Dussehra and before Diwali, goddess Lakshmi will keep showering her blessings throughout the year. That’s why this period sees some of the biggest shopping festivals and discounts on cars, clothes, white goods, electronics as well as jewellery to attract shoppers. The all time favorite of Indian households, gold jewellery has retained its traditional appeal and gold jewellery and coins, despite the prices of gold reaching the sky, is much in demand.
Delhi Police on its part is making every effort that there is no scope left for any untoward incident in the city, tight security cover has been maintained in all the major markets. I
n S N Market, where a bomb blast took place in 2005 during the Diwali time has one of the strongest security this time around. On Sunday, no car was allowed entry inside the market. There was only one entry gate, where every visitor was individually checked by a security guard deployed by Delhi Police. But despite all this the market was jam-packed with shoppers oblivious to the fact that in this same market a bomb blast took place in 2005.
This Year at SN Market, the market association is working together with Delhi Police to make the shopping experience of the shoppers as security proof as possible. Learning from its past mistakes, this time, there are added lighting arrangements illuminating every nook and corner of the market and more frequent announcements are being made urging the public to adhere to safety and security measures and pamphlets are being distributed asking them to look out for suspicious people and objects.
The crowded markets of Delhi especially the S N Market, are proving that terrorist attacks have failed to dampen the spirit of Delhiites and that Delhi truly belongs to the Dil wala's.
