School of Open Learning

Its admission time in Delhi colleges and a worrying statistic is this that while the total number of seats available at all the colleges is around 35000, the total number of applicants for these seats is almost 100000 which means that almost two-thirds of the applicants will not be able to get into any college at all. However, these students need not worry or get depressed as they have an excellent option available in the form of Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL).

The school offers learning through the distance education mode which is a viable alternative for students who need a flexible medium of instruction to attain higher education and vocational skills. The syllabus and the examination system that is followed is the same as regular colleges and the students also get the same degree at the end of their graduation. The only difference is that there will never be a dearth of seats at this school.

The medium of instruction is primarily through well prepared printed course material which is distributed by mail to all the enrolled students. A well appointed faculty is always available at the main campus for academic interaction with students which is further supplemented through Personal Contact Programs conducted for the benefit of students at various study centers run by the school. The school has its South Study Centre at South Moti Bagh. In addition, the school also maintains a well-stocked library to facilitate wide exposure to contemporary developments in streams of courses offered.

SOL offers 5 undergraduate courses to DU aspirants – BA Programme, B Com Programme, B Com (Hons), BA English (Hons) and BA Political Science (Hons). The only criteria required to gain admission into this school is to obtain the minimum percentage of marks as required by the Delhi University – around 40% for BA programme and 50% for Honors.

The Undergraduate Prospectus is available from June 1, 2007 at SOL North Campus and South Study Centre, South Moti Bagh. The last date for receipt of applications for admissions to the school is August 24th 2007. For more information please visit the SOL website at http://sol.du.ac.in.
