Schools in Delhi

If you are looking for an education that not only provides you with an extensive knowledge base but also an all rounded personality, then Delhi is the right place for you. Delhi has a total of 5442 schools out of which 4500 are widely recognized. More than 1.7 million students study here. Delhi's schools are rated as some of the best in the whole of India and they have produced some of the finest of today's youth. Schools in Delhi seek to make students aware of the world they live in and help them grow into confident adults. They also aim to cultivate unity, discipline, humanity, team spirit, hard work and duty.

From Army school to Modern school and from Springdale to Delhi Public school, Delhi has a long list of excellent institutes of good repute and superb results. The Delhi Public school has several branches not only in Delhi but also outside it. They have roots deep in Delhi's educational system and provide some of the best education available. They have not only gained a high distinction in the field of academics but also in extra-curricular activities and sports. Tagore International School is also a highly distinguished institute of academic excellence. The schools here use various creative methods to impart lessons and try to teach students through fun and practical methods. They also hold several co-curricular activities which help cultivate a strong moral sense and healthy competition between students.

The State Government of Delhi has introduced many innovative schemes to encourage children from the poorer sections to go to school. Government run schools are mostly free and some private affiliated schools conduct lessons in the afternoon free of cost or at a nominal one. They also offer a free meal in the afternoons which attracts many children from poorer sections. A no detention policy is also in effect at primary level.

All school children have to complete ten years of basic education and two years of higher education at school. A board exam is conducted to judge the students level and to evaluate their knowledge. Most schools in Delhi follow the syllabus prescribed by the CBSE that is the Central Board of Secondary Education. The Delhi State Board is also very popular. Most of these schools are English Medium and teach through Vernacular medium. Several State Associations run the school in the regional language, which in Delhi is Hindi. Admissions to Delhi schools begin in October and end in March.
