NEW DELHI: On Saturday the ongoing renovation program of the Delhi Airport being done by DIAL was inspected by a high level committee comprising of senior officials from the Union Civil Aviation and Urban Development Ministries.
The committee visited the construction site of the third runway and the integrated passenger terminal, Terminal 3, and reviewed the progress being made on these projects. According to a DIAL spokesman, the review committee was impressed by the progress of the work, and also enquired about the various technical aspects of the ongoing construction activity.
The spokesman further added that construction work on the 4,430 meter long runway- one of the longest in Asia- is moving at a fast pace, earthwork for the runway has finished, while work on taxiways is being carried out. The runway will have seven layers once finished and will be ready for operation by mid 2008 thus decongesting the air traffic at present runways.
According to estimates, in the coming years aerobridges will service over 90 per cent of the passengers at the new Terminal 3.
