Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge and Road, Movie this weekend

Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge starring Ajay Devgn, Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal is on the face of it a promising flick based on a short story by Sharad Joshi that involves your usual harried, pressed for time and space yuppie suburban Mumbai couple played by Devgn and Sen Sharma. They have a child and a small flat into which enters an uncle from Gorakhpur.

Farhan Akhtar and Big B at the Movies this Weekend

Both films this weekend, Teen Patti and Karthik calling Karthik, sound highly interesting according to the first reviews. The former starring the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Ben Kingsley and the latter starring thinking woman’s crumpet Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone.

National Integration and the Hindi Film

In India, our respective religion divide us into groups, sects, sub sects, even ghettos. But there is one other religion, not Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian that unites us; it is the religion of films. We all love our Hindi films and it is this perhaps that bridges divides like nothing else can.

My Name is Khan – This Weekend’s Big Release

So finally the much-hyped, discussed to death film that has generated such profuse quantities of controversy is upon us, and we all have the chance to go watch the film ourselves. Naturally with the amount that has been written, tweeted and blogged about the film I was curious to find out how good the film actually is; and what the critics are saying.

My Name is Khan Releases Tomorrow

There is so much tumult with regard to My Name is Khan’s pre-release controversy that one has lost sight of the fact this is a film that actually has a very promising story; a film that people will likely enjoy watching.

What’s With the Hollywood Migration?

Indian leading ladies from tinsel town seem to be making a beeline for the far shores of Hollywood these days it would seem. There is Aishwarya Rai, Mallika Sherawat, and do we also hear Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone going the same way?

Preity Zinta In the News - For the wrong and the right Reasons

There are many ways that stars and celebrities now manage to stay in touch directly with their fans; blogs, Twitter, et el. Preity Zinta is also busy issuing clarifications about all the stories that are circulating about her love life (or lack thereof).

Razzies from Hollywood and Bollywood

If the Oscars are about awarding the best in Hollywood, the Razzies are about rewarding the worst! A tradition started by John Wilson holding potluck dinner parties at his house to coincide with the Academy Awards presentation became a formal awards ceremony and has now been ongoing for 3 decades.

Rann and Ishqiya on offer this weekend

Rann

Ishqiya hs robustly adult dialogue and sexual tension this is one adult entertainer though; leave the children at home. A must watch if you liked Omkara or even Kaminey.Rann features a sting operation involving the Prime Minister of the country himself.

Veer–Fancy Blood and Gore this Weekend?

Salman

Some strange flight of fancy perhaps made Salman Khan script this strange mishmash of a film Veer; which is a sort of Gladiator meets Dharam Veer meets Superman. Based on the promos one would be forgiven for thinking that this film is set in ancient Greece rather than England a hundred or so years ago. The filmmakers seem to have been inspired not only by the blood and gore of films such as Troy, Gladiator and Braveheart but also inspired by the costumes that the people (and horses wear) in those films.

Want to take a Chance on Dance this Weekend?

The story is about Sameer, a struggling dancer played by Shahid Kapoor, who tries it all in order to make it as a dancer but goes through lean times where, unable to pay the rent he is required to sleep in his car.

Ishqiya and the Censorship Battle

Ishqiya Poster

The censor board has long been criticised by original thinkers and artists for repressing freedom of expression and imposing a long dead morality on a modern and mature populace. The film Ishqiya which is slated for release in a couple of weeks has had more than its fair share of run-ins with the Indian censor board to say nothing of protests from women’s groups; for a number of different reasons.

Pyaar Impossible the Romcom with No difference

Pyaar Impossible

The problem with most romantic comedies is that they are sweet and watchable, but for the most part they are quite predictable; with most of us being able to predict in the first 10 minutes, what will ensue in the last ten. If you plan on Pyaar Impossible this weekend then just be sure not to expect cinematic genius, this is a Beauty and the Geek movie (oops did I just tell you the entire story there?) that is high on froth and low on substance.

The Chetan Bhagat–3 Idiots Controversy; Justified?

Yes there are similarities in characters and even scenes and situations; but the story of the film is very different; the purport of the film and the message it seeks to convey is very different. There are many characters and scenes in the film that are not in the book. Bhagat is probably right to be miffed that he was not given credit in the beginning of the film, because the movie was clearly inspired by the book...
