World’s Largest ‘burfi’ in Delhi?

On Republic day, in what was a unique and innovative way of showing their patriotism, the chefs of The Clarks Inn at the Pacific Mall in Delhi's suburb Kaushambi got together to give shape to what they claim to be the world’s largest coconut burfi in the colors of the national flag. About 18 people toiled for almost 90 hours handling over 350 kg of coconut, 250 kg sugar, 99 kg khoya, 25 kg pista, 10 kg elaichi and 50 kg fresh oranges to make the giant sweet.

The ‘burfi’ was on display on the centre floor of Pacific Mall on a platform specially erected for the purpose and had considerable security cover, including a barricade, thrown around it around it, not to discourage terrorists but to ward off potential foodies and hungry visitors.

Finally, after a formal cutting ceremony, the burfi was distributed amongst the 400-odd visitors at the Mall. Details about the ‘burfi' have also been sent to the Guinness Book of World Records.
