Zakir Hussain College

Zakir Hussain college, managed by the Zakir Hussain Memorial College Trust, is one of the oldest educational institutions of Delhi, tracing its history to a madarsa established in the 18th century. By 1825 the institution had developed into a college, then known as Delhi College. The college started functioning as Anglo-Arabic College in 1924 and became a part of the university set-up. In 1975 the college was named after distinguished educationalist and former President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain and in 1991, the college shifted to its new building located near the New Delhi railway station.

In its long history, the college has produced some leading scholars and social scientists, mathematicians and literature, social reformers and revolutionaries, poets and patriots who are still remembered with love and respect. The social and extra-curricular life of the college is organized through societies of academic discipline and general societies such as students' union , girls' association, arts and culture society, debating society, society for gardening and ecological concerns and NCC for boys and girls. Sports organizations, clubs and sports related training programmes are also available to channelise the energies of the students. The college also has a well-stocked library that has over 85,000 volumes and hostel facility for about 40 students.

The college imparts instructions in 19 disciplines at the Honors and Pass levels, besides enrolling students for M.A., M.Sc. and M.Com. programmes. Admissions are strictly on the basis of marks secured in the Senior Secondary High School (for four relevant subjects) examination as the college declares a cut-off list for admission to various undergraduate courses every year. The application forms for admissions to the current year are available at the moment and the last date for submissions is 15th June 2007.
